String Differential

Aim - 

To develop a new Mars rover differential mechanism which improves upon the shortcomings of the bar differential mechanism

Motivation -

The string differential was an ongoing project at Team Anveshak being passed on from one year to the next. For the year 2019-20, I worked on a revamped implementation to overcome the shortcomings of the previous iteration while being guided by a senior team member. For the year 2020-21, I am guiding the string differential project.

What I learnt -
  • Workflow from ideation to design to prototype manufacturing

  • Relatively involved design and simulations on Fusion 360

  • Ensuring ease of manufacturing (through laser cutting and bending) without compromising on functionality
